Well intervention services entail operations undertaken on gas or oil wells. There are various offshore well intervention companies that adopt different methods of well intervention. Below are some types of well intervention services;
Table of Contents
Pumping
Pumping is a simple form of well intervention that does not involve using hardware in the well. The type of well intervention entails rigging up the Christmas tree through the kill wing valve. This is followed by the pumping of a fluid that is necessary for the well.
Christmas tree and wellhead maintenance
The level of complexity of delivering a Christmas tree and wellhead maintenance varies depending on the state of the wellheads. Scheduling annual maintenance involves pressure testing of the valve of the hardware as well as greasing. In some instances, the safety of the downhole is tested too.
Slick line
The slick line operations are mainly used for gauge cutting, fishing, and the removing and setting of plugs. The intervention also involves removing wire lines or deploying retrievable memory logging and valves.
Braided line
The services involved in braided lines are more complex as compared to the slick line. The process entails using a system for grease injection to promote sealing around the contour wires that are braided by the blowout preventer.
The braided line intervention needs an extra shear seal for the blow-out preventer as a barrier since the master valve on the upper side of the Christmas tree can only cut the slick line. The braided line consists of the electric line used for well perforating, logging, and coreless variety.
Coiled tubing
If there is a need to pump chemicals directly to the bottom of the well, a coiled tubing service is used. Such services may be a chemical wash or an operation involving circulation. The services can also be used in tasks done by the wireline if the well has severe deviation to lower the tool string through gravity and conditions that avoid using a wireline tractor.
Hydraulic workover
Hydraulic work, also referred to as snubbing, entails forcing a string of a pipe in the well to perform needful tasks against pressure from the wellbore. In this case, the pipe is more rigid, and the rig is bigger than for coiled tubing.
Workover
There are scenarios when the old wells may require pulling out to replace them with a new completion. In such a case, there is a need to change the reservoir state and the condition that is deteriorating.
Offshore well intervention
The intervention poses several challenges and needs adequate planning. The price of offshore well intervention companies’ services is very viable in the modern world. The interventions are in most cases undertaken by light or medium intervention vessels or units that execute mobile offshore drilling operations.
For the light interventions, the well is live during the process and entails making changes and adjusting the valves. Heavy interventions are performed when the well is shut down and are used to make replacements replace parts like pumps or tubing strings.
The well work or intervention occurs when the production process is occurring or at the end of the productive life. The work affects the condition of the well, gives the well diagnostics, and manages the well’s productivity.
